Snowed Under system requirements
Official Steam minimums and what they mean next to the studio's "light" claim.
Chilla’s Art published a short minimum spec on Steam. There is no filled recommended block beyond “64-bit OS.” Platforms: Windows only. Mac and Linux are not listed. Family Sharing and Steam Achievements are listed. DirectX 11.
This page is the hardware sibling of the review hub and performance. Gameplay help stays in Getting Started.
Official minimum
- OS: Windows 10 x64 or above
- CPU: Intel Core i5-6200 or above
- RAM: 4 GB
- GPU: AMD RX 550 or above at 1080p Ultra (store wording)
- DirectX: 11
- Storage: 3 GB
- Sound: yes
Take the GPU line as a marketing sentence, not a benchmark lab. An RX 550-class card at 1080p Ultra on a snow overlay can still look worse than the FPS number. Comfort is the snow filter, not the polycount.
What “light” means here
Older Chilla’s Art games are famous for heavy performance. Game*Spark reported that the studio called Snowed Under light enough for anyone, and that a Patreon beta existed. Launch reviews sometimes agreed that optimization was fine, then complained about flakes, brightness, and crashes instead of frame time.
If you struggled with The Convenience Store on a laptop, this title is more likely to run. It is still Unreal Engine with a blizzard overlay. Integrated graphics below the RX 550 claim are a gamble. 4 GB RAM is already tight on Windows 10 with Chrome open.
Steam Deck and handhelds
The store page does not advertise a verified Deck rating in the data we used. Some review filters mention Deck playtime. Treat handheld as unproven on this wiki until you test. Lower snow effects first. See performance for crash and save advice that matters more on a suspend-heavy device.
Disk, installs, and patches
3 GB is small. Patches 1.04–1.06 already shipped in the launch window (patch notes). Keep automatic updates on so roof VFX and achievement triggers stay current.
Languages versus hardware
Full audio is Japanese. UI and subtitles include English, French, German, and many others. Language DLC is not a GPU problem. If subtitles fail, that is a localization patch issue (1.06 mentioned localization), not a spec miss.
If the game runs but you still cannot see, that is not a requirements failure. That is the blizzard. Jump-peek landmarks and rest at base camp. If it does not launch, verify the Steam install before you buy a new GPU for a 3 GB horror chore.
Storage is the easy part. Three gigabytes fits on almost any SSD from the last decade. The painful part is RAM headroom while Discord, a browser, and Steam overlay sit on the same 4 GB machine the store still lists. Close the overlay if hitching starts only when you Alt-Tab. DirectX 11 means you should not be hunting a DirectX 12 night-mode flag that does not exist. If a friend sends you a macOS workaround, it is unofficial and outside this wiki.
Sound is listed as required because voice lines carry Kai and the lead. Playing mute is possible but you will miss the relationship hook the store is selling. Use headphones if the snow hiss and howls stack into mush on laptop speakers. That is comfort, not a benchmark, and it belongs next to the RX 550 line because both decide whether you finish the two-to-four-hour window.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Can I play Snowed Under on Mac?
Steam lists Windows only. No Mac or Linux requirement block is filled.
Is 4 GB RAM enough?
It is the official minimum. Close background apps. 8 GB is a safer modern floor.
Does it need a high-end GPU?
The listed floor is RX 550-class. The painful part is snow overlay comfort, not ray tracing.
Is it lighter than other Chilla's Art games?
The studio said so, and some reviews agreed. Crashes and filters can still ruin a session.
